What is the JEE Main Exam?

The full form of JEE Main is the Joint Entrance Examination Mains. It is a national level entrance examination conducted by NTA for admission into Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) and Architecture (B.Arch./B.Plan.) courses in the top CFTIs, like the NITs, IIITs, and SFIs, State Engineering Colleges of the participating states and other participating institutions.

National Testing Agency (NTA) has been developed as a premier, autonomous, specialist, and self-sustained testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for admission in top educational institutions. This exam is conducted twice a year in January and April. The examination will be conducted in two individual papers i.e. Paper-I - Engineering (BE/ B.Tech) Paper-II - Architecture (B.Arch./B.Plan.).

JEE Main 2020 Exam Date

The various sessions and rounds of the JEE Main 2020 Exam may seem confusing. To understand perfectly, you can find the details of JEE Main 2020 Exam Dates below:

Admit Card: Admit Card for the April session of the JEE Main exam is expected to be released by the NTA online for all the aspirants on August 17, 2020. It is a mandatory document and one has to carry it to the exam hall without fail.

Exam Day: It will be conducted online i.e. Computer-based Test (CBT) and offline i.e., Pen & Paper-based Test (PBT) for drawing on September 1, 2020 to September 6, 2020 from 9 am to 12 noon in the morning shift and from 3 pm to 6 pm in the evening shift.

Results: You can check the results for the JEE Main 2020 April session on the official website which are expected to be released on September 11, 2020.

JEE Main 2020 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates aiming to write JEE Main 2020 need to make sure they fit the eligibility requirements put forth by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The basic eligibility requirement for all candidates is to have passed Class 10 and 12 examinations or its equivalent. In addition, other aspects of the JEE Main 2020 Eligibility Criteria are listed below:

Age Limit:

There is No Age Limit specified by the NTA for the candidates to appear for the exam. However, each candidate must understand that every college (with reference to IITs, NITs, GFTIs, etc.) has prescribed age limits. Details about that will be made available in the JEE Main 2020 Information Brochure. It is important to plan one's attempts accordingly.

Educational Qualifications:

The candidates who have passed 10+2 or any other equivalent examination in the year 2018 or 2019 or are appearing in 2020 from a recognized Board of Education are eligible to appear for JEE Main 2020 April Sessions.

Admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs participating through the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB):
  • For B.E./B.Tech.: The candidates must have passed 10+2 or any other equivalent examination with Mathematics and Physics as mandatory subjects along with anyone among the following subjects - Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subjects, with a minimum of 75% marks for general category candidates and 65% for SC/ST category candidates from a recognized Board of Education.
  • For B.Arch./B.Plan.: The candidates must have passed 10+2 or any other equivalent examination with Mathematics as a mandatory subject, with minimum 75% marks for general category candidates and 65% for SC/ST category candidates from a recognized Board of Education.

Provisions for Persons with Disabilities (PwD)

  • Application: Candidates with a disability should fill in the type and percentage of disability correctly in the online application form for JEE Main 2020.
  • Scribe/Reader: Candidate will have the discretion of opting his/her own scribe/reader or may submit the request to the centre superintendent for the same. Only the candidates, who have 40% or more disability, will be provided with a Scribe/Reader on the request.
  • Essentials for Reader/Scribe: The centre superintendent will identify the scribe/ reader when a request is received from the candidate, he/she would be allowed to meet the scribe a day before the JEE Main 2020 examination to verify the suitability of the scribe.

JEE Main 2020 Registration

JEE Main is conducted twice a year in January and in April. Application form for the April 2020 paper was available from February 7, 2020 to May 24, 2020. Candidates are required to register first and then apply by following the instructions mentioned below.

Candidates will have to fill in the JEE Main 2020 Application Form online. The application fee should be paid through online payment gateways such as Credit Card/Debit Card/Net Banking/UPI/PayTM only.
